The California Professional Horsemen’s Association, CPHA was established in 1964. CPHA is a non for profit organization committed to providing educational, developmental and benefiting programs in support of its professional members. In 2016, CPHA had over 950 members, which consist of professional workers working in the horse show industry, trainers, H2-B visa applicants and sponsors as well as junior and amateur riders who compete in many medal classes, including:

  • CPHA Junior Medal
  • CPHA Amateur Medal
  • CPHA Foundation
  • CPHA Child/Adult Medal
  • CPHA Horsemanship Medal
  • CPHA Style of Riding
  • WCE Medal

Among many, CPHA offers the following programs and benefits for professionals working in California’s equestrian community:

  • H2-B Visa program, which enables horse professionals from other countries to work legally in US
  • Excess Accident Insurance policy
  • College scholarship program for children of professionals and/or working students in the industry (CPHA Foundation)
  • Benevolent Program that helps professionals in need (CPHA Foundation)

CPHA Foundation raises money from donations as well as from few, well organized fund raisers, which includes a silent auction held during the annual PCHA convention in Las Vegas.  For the 2016-2017 year, there were 7 , $2,000.00 scholarships awarded. Kayla Lott and Lauren Franco were among those 7 scholarship winners. During the annual convention, CPHA also recognizes professionals for their life long accomplishments. In 2014, Jim Hagman was awarded the Horseman of the Year award while Halie Robinson was recognized with the Junior Achievement Award.
